In its latest Budget for 2023/24 the HKSAR Government presented a clear direction ahead of driving high quality development through innovation and technology, and the ambition of charting Hong Kong in moving full steam towards the vision of an international I&T centre.
To step up investments in tech startups, the Government will:
- Reserve HK$265 million for Cyberport to nurture smart living startups
- Inject HK$400 million through Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks (HKSTP) into its Corporate Venture Fund to support high potential tech startups
- Allocate an additional HK$110 million for HKSTP to launch its Co acceleration Programme to facilitate growth of startups into regional and global enterprises
In addition, to build a competitive and sustainable ecosystem in Hong Kong for attracting top notch startups, the Government will also:
- Introduce a “patent box” tax incentive to encourage creation of patented inventions
- Earmark HK$50 million to expedite development of the Web3 ecosystem
- Set up a Green Technology and Finance Development Committee to formulate long term action agenda for developing GreenTech and GreenFi
